Welcome! If you've looked at the Kling model list and felt a bit lost on which to choose, you're not alone. There are a lot of options: Standard, Pro, Master, Turbo, 4K.
This guide explains each model in plain language, talks about what it's good at (and not so good at), and help you pick the right one for your project.
The Big Picture
Kling is a family of AI video models made by Kuaishou. Think of them like a car lineup:
Some models are budget-friendly: they get the job done without costing much
Some are mid-range: better quality, more features, still reasonable
Some are premium: the best quality, but you pay for it
One is flagship: it does something no other Kling model can do (4K video)
The newest models (Kling 3.0) are the most advanced. They understand complex prompts, can generate audio along with video, and let you keep characters consistent across scenes. Older models still have their place, especially if you're watching your budget or need speed.
Kling 3.0 Series (The Latest and Greatest)
Kling 3.0 Standard
Best for: Most everyday video projects
This is the all-rounder of the Kling family. It's the newest generation, so it understands detailed prompts better than older models. It can:
Generate native audio with your video (sound effects, atmosphere)
Handle multi-shot scenes. You can describe different shots and it'll stitch them together
Keep characters and objects consistent across scenes using custom elements
Produce cinematic, fluid motion
Choose a clip length between 3-15 seconds
When to use it: This is your go-to for most projects: social media content, marketing videos, storyboards, product demos. It's a solid step up from older models without being the most expensive option.
Keep in mind: It's not the absolute top tier in quality (that's Pro), and it can't do 4K.
Kling 3.0 Pro
Best for: Premium projects where quality and control matters most.
Kling 3.0 Pro can generate multi-shot videos with prompt input for each shot, and optional audio generation. Think of it as Kling 3.0 Standard's big sibling. It has the same core technology but pushes the quality higher.
When to use it: Film pre-visualization, high-end ad campaigns, cinematic short films, music videos, any project where you need quality and control.
Keep in mind: This is one of the more expensive models in the lineup. You'll get better results, but it costs more per second of video. If you're experimenting or iterating quickly, you might want to start with Standard and only switch to Pro for the final version.
Kling 3.0 4K
Best for: When you need true 4K resolution
Directly create native 4K video in one step. No upscaling, no extra software, just 4K straight out of the model.
Most other AI video models create video at lower resolutions, and you have to upscale them afterwards. This model skips that step entirely.
When to use it: Broadcast-ready content, cinema production, high-end brand commercials, anything that will be shown on a big screen or needs to look crisp in 4K.
Keep in mind: This is the most expensive option and the most demanding on computing power. Only use it if you genuinely need 4K. For most online content, the Standard or Pro models are plenty.
Kling 2.6 Series
Kling 2.6 Pro
When to use it: This is a strong middle ground model: better quality than the 2.1 models, less expensive than 3.0.
Keep in mind: It doesn't have the custom element support or deep prompt understanding of 3.0. It can't generate native audio either. If you need those features, go with 3.0.
Clip length: Choose between 3-15 seconds.
Kling 2.5 Turbo Series
Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro
Best for: Speed. Getting results fast.
The "Turbo" name tells you everything. This model is built for speed. It creates video faster than the non-Turbo models while keeping good quality.
When to use it: Rapid prototyping, quick iteration loops, bulk video generation, any situation where you're making lots of videos and need them fast. Great for testing ideas before committing to a more expensive model.
Keep in mind: It's faster, but it doesn't have the resolution or feature set of the 3.0 models. No native audio, no custom elements. Use it for speed, not for polish.
Clip length: Choose between 3-15 seconds.
Kling 2.5 Turbo Standard
Best for: High-volume, budget-conscious work
Same fast Turbo engine as the Pro version, but at a lower cost. This is one of the most cost-efficient models in the Kling lineup.
When to use it: Bulk content creation, A/B testing lots of video variants, social media at scale, rough drafts and concepts. If you're making dozens or hundreds of videos and need to keep costs down, start here.
Keep in mind: You're trading some quality and features for speed and cost. If a video works well in Turbo Standard, you can always recreate it in a higher-tier model for the final version.
Kling 2.1 Series
Kling 2.1 Master
Best for: The best quality in the 2.1 generation
This is the premium tier of the 2.1 models. It's the highest quality you can get without moving up to the 2.6 or 3.0 generations. It's known for smooth motion, cinematic visuals, and following prompts accurately.
When to use it: Professional social media content, product animations, creative projects where you want good quality but don't need the latest features of 3.0.
Keep in mind:It can't do native audio or multi-shot scenes the 3.0 models can.
Clip length: Choose 5 or 10 seconds.
Kling 2.1 Pro
Best for: A good balance of quality and cost.
This is a dedicated image animation model that uses a start frame image. It has a prompt strength slider that lets you control how the image and the text prompt control your generation.
When to use it: Mid-range production work, clips for music videos, storyboarding.
Keep in mind: Same limitations as Master: no native audio, no multi-shot, no custom elements. It's a solid workhorse, but it's been superseded by the 3.0 generation.
Clip length: Choose 5 or 10 seconds.
Kling 2.1 Standard
Best for: Keeping costs low
This is the most cost-efficient model in the entire Kling lineup. It creates decent quality video from images without breaking the bank, with a prompt strength slider to adjust how the text prompt and image work together to generate your video.
When to use it: Volume generation, thumbnail-to-video, early concept testing, personal projects, educational content, any workflow where budget is the main concern.
Keep in mind: Motion is simpler, duration is shorter, and you have fewer controls. It's a great starting point, but doesn’t have the quality of the higher end models.
Clip length: Choose 5 or 10 seconds.

A Note on Costs
Here's a rough guide to how the models compare in cost:
Budget-friendly: Kling 2.1 Standard, Kling 2.5 Turbo Standard
Mid-range: Kling 2.1 Pro, Kling 2.1 Master, Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro, Kling 2.6 Pro
Premium: Kling 3.0 Standard, Kling 3.0 Pro
Flagship: Kling 3.0 4K
As a general rule: newer generation + higher tier = better quality = higher cost. The 3.0 models cost more than the 2.x models, and within each generation, Pro costs more than Standard, and Master costs more than Pro.
